To add to Huw's post, the same hydraulic fluid (made by Pentosin)
is also available from VW and Audi parts departments in containers
that have the official VW/Audi logos on them.  The factory part number
for that is G 002 000.  All recent VW and Audi models (anything since the
'90s and up) require this fluid in the power steering system, even when
the brake assist is vacuum assisted rather than hydraulic-pump assisted.

While we're on the subject of Pentosin, they also manufacture the
factory radiator antifreeze that VW and Audi uses.  The G11 "blue"
coolant used up to around 1998 or so is Pentosin G 001 100 whereas the
newer cars with the "pink" G12 coolant is Pentosin G 001 200.
These are also available from the dealer in the VW/Audi "Autobahn" brand
bottles.  The Pentosin antifreeze is the best coolant to use in our
cars because they are completely phosphate-free and absolutely safe
with the engine's aluminum parts.  Don't mix the G11 and G12 coolants,
though.  They are not compatible.  If you want to switch to the new
G12 coolant (much longer service life and more environmentally friendly)
you must completely flush the cooling system of the old coolant.
