Pentosin Goo2000-why?

Only deep in the bowels of Ingolstadt do the men/women
in the white coats have the true answer ;)
However, per a VW/Audi tech who has been around for
eons:
I asked a similar question, as I used to have an 84
Quantum (Passat) that took Dexron in the pwr. steering
tank. Later on, I bought my first type $$ which was
my baptism oil of Audidom. Needless to say, that car
had a leak of the mysterious green oil which ate into
the wallet at an annoying rate.
I asked my tech friend about this, having owned VAG
products since 1980...he explained that the Pentosin
fluid was introduced when Audi went with the hydraulic
brake boosting system (and self leveller to the
European market). Dexron wasn't considered to be up
to the task, as the working pressure in the brake
booster is substantially higher than a regular PS
rack.
Later mass-market Audis (like my '93 100) reverted
back to a conventional vacuum brake booster but
continued to use the mysterious Goo2000. So does my
1991 Jetta, while the very similar 1986 Golf uses ATF
(PS hydraulic only on these cars).
I'm going to speculate that there was an effort to
standardize on the Goo in the late '80s or early '90s.
Flame away!
