changing Euro light bulbs

I need to change out the low beam H4. There appears to be a white retaining
ring which does not want to turn or come out. Before I break it, is there
some trick to removal? I checked Scottmo's site and it covers everything but
changing the bulbs. Once the retaining ring comes out I assume the bulb will
twist out with a 45 degree turn. Thx for the help
