Hi,
If you are after that kind of power I think that the old solid lifter engine
is the best choice. As you say the lower compression will probably allow you
to run a lot more boost. For autoX I think that the large Garrett turbo can
be a bit wrong, a moderately sized garrett will probably work better even if
it will cost you a few tenths on the quarter mile. The combination with low
CR and a big turbo can be a pain in autoX, but the MC is also a low
compression engine. My old solid lifter JY engine has a 8.8:1 CR.
I would buy both engines.
Most people over here that run hot 10vt engines use solid lifter heads,
there must be a reason for that.
If you go for electronic fuel injection I would not bother with the stock
ignition system, even if you use the turbos ignition it is only mapped to
around half a bar after that you rely on the knocksensors alone.
I think that most of the guys on the list that has made ignition maps for
their enginemanagement systems will let you look at them, you can have mine
any day.
I don't think that a 40mm intake valve will make a big differance, try to
use a bigger exhaust valve instead. A small bore only has one downside in my
book, the valvesize is restricted.
Good stuff on the solid lifter engine:
Solid lifters
79.5mm bore (strong)
low compression
Probably a more aggressive cam.
(Same power, same boost as the MC but no intercooler and lower CR when
comparing Swedish engines.)
