[ive been hearing about ways to increase airflow to my
engine, ive been wondering if anyone on this list
would have a discription on how to increase my airflow
(84 4000 Quattro), or any ideas to increase my power
any at all and preferably inexpencivly.(my reason for
wanting a lot more power still is cause I got beet by
an Acura integra the other day, and i cant stand for
that i beat him the second time cause hes in an
automatic, but it was a little to close for comfort!)
thanks to anyone who can help me in my fight against
the Honda's!]
Sean,
For starters, here are the cheap low-no cost places to start.
1) advance timing. Not too much. Maybe about 5 degrees over stock. Trial
and error test runs will help you find the optimal. Should buy about 5 HP.
2) make sure everything is tight tunup-wise. wires, cap, rotor, air filter
and vacuem lines.
3) If you have not converted, Synthetic oil. I use Castrol Syntec 5W-50.
Others swear by Mobil 1. I don't want to start any oil wars here.
Now when you have some money to spend:
4)Higher flow exhaust such as Stebro SS. Not too much gain without..
5)Cam a 264-268 grind is fine for stree performance. Any more and you start
to lose drivability and low end. Coupled with exhaust you should be good
for another 10 HP(guesstimate). The real gain tho is the torque across the
RPM spectrum.
Of course, if you have the time and re$ource$, a complete engine swap is the
way to go. A bottom end of an NG/NF is the easiest, so I've come to
understand. Turbo if you want to go full bore, and then not too many cars
will touch you off the line.

redline with no problem.
