Yup, the stock bypass valve works fine. But it doesn't always
last very long, I think particularily with high boost. When you
noticed no difference, that just means yours was still working OK.
At 60K miles, mine was not working OK.
I just called Forge, and found the differences in the 1.8T and the 2.7tt
versions. First, I have the 1.8T version installed, and it fits fine on
my 1995 S6.
The valve for the 2.7tt is a bit more compact to fit that car. The top
on the 1.8T model is held together with allen bolts, the top in the
2.7tt model is threaded and screws together like a bottle cap so it
is a bit smaller on the outside dimensions. I didn't ask them about
the inner piston diamer of the two models, so I don't know if it's
the same.
