any ideas - clutch pedal sticking on return?

More than likely it is the clutch M/C. BTDT.. Twice
You can get a rebuild kit from NAPA or a complete one from other sources as
well.
The M/C is easier to change than the slave, so try it first. Requires some
twisting of the human body to get at it, but not that bad.
After you install it and bleed it, if the pedal still feels "spongy", drive
the car a little bit. Seems that mine would self bleed the rest of the way.
I would try to bleed it for an hour and no luck. 5 minutes of driving would
bring it back to normal.
