1.6 head on a 1.7 block!?

Yes, they put the 1.6 head on the 1.7 block - the block is identified as it
had an H or 1.7 emobossed on the manifold sid of the block.
That is the combination that came with the '80 - '82 4000 4E.
Nice smooth ride! I don't think this was a high compression motor, but maybe
8.5 or 9:1.

Not sure about the specifics, but I can guarantee you that the compression
change is in the piston, not the head.

that the head has 1,6 engraved upon it. The block I have identified as

1.6 heads on the early 1.7l blocks, or if this was a swap job. I
was looking in the Haynes manual, and it lists 1.6l engines with two
different compression ratios, so I am assuming the heads themselves are
different. I haven't been able to track down the head code yet, but the
car itself is '4E' badged instead of 'Fuel Injection,' if that is any
