Audi 100: Problems with hydraulic level adjustment

Hi
About a month ago, my 1990 Audi 100 Avant with automatic, hydraulic
levelling system became very low in the rear, and the suspension
pretty much "disapperared".
Two Audi dealer visits later and about USD 500 lighter, everything
seems to work fine... EXCEPT that the right side is a bit lower than
the left.
When the car is unloaded, the right side is about 2cm (~ 1") lower,
and when loaded with 360kg (~ 800lbs) of sand bags the difference is
around 4-6cm (~ 2-3").
The dealer tells me they don't know what might cause this, that they
know of no obvious things to check for, and that it is (of course)
expensive as h... to start swapping parts and testing it.
I have not yet picked the car up, but I hope to talk to the guy who
has worked on the car and hear what he has to say. I can probably
live with the difference, but I really do not want to...
If someone knows if there are things to look for, that would be great
:-)
