Fog light replacement options.

I recently changed out the fog lights on my Coupe Quattro. Mine were
stolen, so rather than offer up a brand new pair of $219 ea. OEM fogs to the
thieves, I decided to find a lower cost driving light option. I still have
the DOT headlights, so I went with a driving light rather than a fog. The
fogs had limited utility to me as it was. I installed a Hella 1500 Optilux
lamp. Oval design, just a couple inches across, and fit in the OEM
openings. Die cast metal housings, seem to be well made. Heavy lens. 55
watt. They're Hella's budget lamp series (Optilux) but for less than $50
for the pair, they're a bargain. Light output is amazing over the stock
high beam. Looks like a lot more than 55 watts... Great illumination
distance, and the pattern spreads a bit, illuminating the sides of the road
as well, so you get a good view of animals, etc. on the road side.
Down-side - they are not suitable for round town use. You'd blind oncoming
drivers. But a great low cost option otherwise. I created bladed plugs so
they would plug into my existing Audi fog light wiring - so I didn't even
have to run wire or install a switch, just mount them, plug them in, and hit
the OEM switch on the dash. Did it in an afternoon. Make sure you measure
your stock mounting openings though - the Coupe's bumper differs from the
sedan, so your openings will be a different size and shape than mine.

Hope that helps.

If anyone is interested in pictures, let me know. I'll post them to the web
or email.
