A problem with a breather hose on the back of the 20v Turbo... HELP...

Hey all,
 
            On the back of the motor on my 1995 S6 there is a "L" shaped
hose on the back of the top of the valve cover! That "L" shaped hose
developed a tear in it. When I go to ETKA, I notice it is for the
"Ventilation of the Cylinder Block Vacuum Hoses!"  The part # is 034 133
997 J.  What is the part for and will there be less boost when on the
throttle or is this just for ventilation and won't affect anything while
driving? Please HELP!
