Found the little shit!
I've long known there was a bug in the wiring diagrams - in fact there are
dozens - but one has perplexed me for years. I've finally realised what it
is.
The problem is: if you follow the carry-over tracks from diagram to diagram
emanating from the notorious "Stephen" - fuse 12 - in the 1985 wiring
diagram they don't land right; Stephen's black/blue wire seems to descend
from the wrong track.
The error is in track 105 of diagram 17 - a track should turn down from the
carry-overs at this point to power L13 and half of L1; the left main beam
lights. In the diagram, these are shown as unpowered. The track that
should turn down here is carried over, leading to the tracks right of this
point being shifted one upwards from where they should be.
Owners of the factory diagrams may care to make a note in the book.
Did Bentley slavishly copy this bug?
(I also think Fuse 3 should be shown in track 104. It's shown in the ABS
diagram (18) but not for the base car. Since I don't have access to any
1985 cars without ABS I can't check - but I'm pretty sure the horn and brake
lights are always fused.)
