what year s2? the 5-speed or the 6-speed. agree about the values in nz.
also, in nz, there are, afaik, only 4 20v ur-q's, none with particularly
high kms...

having owner a '93 s2 (5-speed) and driven a 951, the 951 gives more of the
ur-q "feel", but is much less practical and all-weather. higher lag and not
as much fun on the throttle as the 20 either. the s2 is an altogether
different car, softer and quieter, and more stealthy. my wife still has
fond memories for the old s2, and likes it better than the rs2, almost as
practical as the avant as well. the other factor is that the 6-speed s2
came with the uprated motor, the aby, which is even stronger lower down, got
the 6-speed box (need to be catreful on serial numbers here - get one with
the strengthened 1st gear), and stiffened handling. a better drivers car.

But as always, it's fun to look ahead...
There is the obvious appeal of the Ur, which is tempered by their high kms
and the difficulty of getting a 20v in good condition.

Now the early 90's S2 has caught my eye, and I have seen a few around
(Auckland, New Zealand), and even one for sale today. These cars look very
tidy, and the ones I have seen appear to have been well pampered.

Just looking for other people's opinions on picking between the S2 and the
previous top of my wishlist, a Porsche 944 Turbo...
