Well I hate to say it, but I love to agree with Huw on this one. My FWD
80 was a better ride than the 90q20v. I know this is blasphemous to some of
you, but in a real world comparison I really liked my 80's handling
characteristics better than the 90q20v's.
We'll see what happens when I get the same suspension setup in the
90q20v, but right now it's a very tight stock suspension, ask Eric
Renneisen, and I really liked the 80 in stock form more than this car. The
90q20v understeers more, slower in, but it's great to fly out of a turn
which my 80 couldn't do. So I'd really think if I tossed the 80 and 90q20v
into turns simultaneously they would almost end up at the same point at the
end of the turn, just driving through it would be different. Flame on!
Then again I'll take the quattro in the winter any day of the week. I
think both the FWD and Quat have their benefits. The FWD has a less
sophisticated rear suspension which worked damn well. I think the
independent rear suspension really wasn't perfected yet on the earlier
quattro's. My opinion may change once I setup the 90q20v with 2B coilovers,
Bilstein shocks, and so forth. Though I really did like the way the 80
moved through a corner.
