You don't for one moment think that the Audi-built Cabriolets are
non-re-enforced, do you? See, it Audi had done a "true" CGT-to-cabriolet
conversion, I am sure they would have done all sorts of body-stiffening
work.

Well, yes and no. Turns out that most companies who build converts based on coupes or sedans do add beams and such to the bottom of the car. Question? Does it work? Not always. Look at the E36 and E30 M3 convertibles, which had such an otherwise stiff chassis that the removal of the roof had a negative effect on the rest of the car. The quattro and Coupe GT would have to fit into this category, since they were based on the same principles as the small BMWs. And, the GT would need that 4.2 V8 to move its massive weight around! Of course, it WOULD probably solve the horrible ventilation that the T85 coupe has.
