Spedometer gear replacement?

After 3 years of driving my 87 5KTQ with a broken odometer I decided to take it appart and see if I could find a replacement gear. well when I opened it up I noticed that most of the teeth on the gear were missing, which is what I had expected.
I remember reading that someone on the list went to a hobby shop and was able to find a replacement gear. I found a place online called "tower hobbies" that sells lots of gears but I do not know how many teeth are supposed to be on this thing.
after searching the archives I was not able to find this post and was hoping that someone had this info.

This problem is not caused by the gear slipping on the shaft which is a common VW problem BTDT
this is the gear that goes between the trip odometer and the regular odometer.
I am also not interested in sending it to VDO or any of the other places to have it repaired for $100++.
