highlight for me was travelling in the north of italy in a renault 25. flat
out at over 220km/hr. passing a police car which was in the right lane,
going flat out at probably 140km/hr. with its lights going.
only issue at that speed on the roads were the tunnels. despite painting
them white, you had the split second of "blindness" going into them at
speed. still remember one of these tunnels where the road kinked left right
at the entrance. this was rather startling. looking out, tyre marks could
be clearly seen snaking *up* the wall where someone, clearly going very
fast, and not paying much attention, had managed to invert his car...

I agree - having run the 944 Turbo S up to 140 (BTW, 4th
gear in that car -
it's still got one more :-) ), it's like going 60. Except
for closure rates.
Other than that, though.... :-)
