BIG SHORT, dead 4kq

You guys were right about the brushes being worn
out in the voltage regulator. In fact the plastic
around the outer brush is melted, so the short
probably came from there.

I say "probably" b/c I haven't put in the new
Bosch regulator I just got. I haven't put it in
yet b/c frankly, now the brushes are long and
don't really know how install the regulator
properly, seating the brushes in their place w/o
damaging them or shorting something if the brushes
don't seat correctly. What's the trick, plz?

You guys are awesome :-)

BTW the Bentley pics of the wiring fron Jay,
really confirm that you guys are right. The little
wire from the solenoid at prong 15A gets juice
thru the solenoid only when the solenoid plunger
is plunged-in by the current from the thicker wire
at 50 from the ignition switch. That current from
15A is a signal to the thermo-time switch,
cold-start valve and ECU to get them going when
the motor gets cranked. In short <grin> the
starter-solenoid wires could not have caused my
problem.
