question on Michelin Pilot Sport

A quick question...I picked up a set of used Michelin Pilot Sport tires in a
245/40/17" size for autocrossing and driver training. Couldn't beat the
price, but when I got the tires, they looked pretty well worn.
The tires were advertised as having 5/32" of tread, or 50% of tread life
left.
The tread depth measures 2/32" at the center of the tread, pretty much down
to the wear bars, getting up to 5/32" or 6/32" toward the edge. The wear is
even on each tire, so my question is this:
Can someone tell me whether the Pilot Sports are built with decreasing tread
depth toward the center of the tire, or does this reflect uneven wear?
(maybe an over-inflation issue)
Since I'll be using these for autocrossing and driver training, is this type
of tread depth actually good?
Or should I send the tires back?
Thanks!
