guide pins ok, caliper bracket not?

Both rear calipers are off along with the brackets; all have been
bead-blasted and are lookin' fine with a coat of primer.

Playing with the guide pins, they've all got plenty of grease on
them, but I noticed that action is only smooth if you directly
push/pull on them; if you press them even gently to one side and pull
in/out, the action is very rough.

The pins are covered in grease, so I don't know if the problem is
with the pins or the inside bore they slide in. I can't think of any
easy way to fix inside damage except to take them to a machine shop
and have the holes machined out, but that would cause the guide pins
to bounce around.

So:

Am I best off just buying a set of new bracket?
Is it most likely that the pins are really the damaged item and
should I just bite the bullet and clean 'em out, inspect, polish up,
and regrease?
Is the above behavior w/rough action when pressed to a side normal
and should I just make sure the holes are really full of grease and
reassemble?

Pad&rotor wear wasn't exactly even on either side.
