just to get myself stuck in the cc: list of this thread...

1. Once (many years ago) we (Genesis Physics) sent a wire to Canada for
about three grand.  It took almost a month to track it down - it got
lost on someone's desk.  The actual process, then, at least, involved
about four people at four different banks all having to do some manual
data entry.  Whew!

2. MasterCard and Visa seem to work perfectly well "across borders."
Their exchange rates, as far as I know, are very reasonable (ie, I get
dollars as charged, customer sees bill in their local currency).  Of
course that's not too useful if you are buying from an individual.
