You don't mention which type of car. Bad lister :-)
On my 5ktq, I saved a message such as this:
http://www.audifans.com/archives/1999/06/msg00261.html
(It wasn't this one, this is one I just found using the search feature of
Audifans with the words 'taurus sensor')
I bought some kind of Ford Taurus Bosch O2 sensor for way cheap, and took
the new sensor and the original Audi sensor from the car to my bench in the
garage. I cut the wires from the new sensor at the connector end, and cut
the wires from the old sensor at the sensor end, and crimped (using a high
quality ratcheting crimp tool :-) the new sensor to the old connector
matching the wires by color. I didn't invent this, someone posted about
doing this to save $$$, and I can't find the post.
I had to go to my FLAPS to get the O2 sensor socket to get the sensor out
and in. The special socket was around $10.
Go for it!
