Looking at a '92 100CSQ Avant...

Since I have total distrust in our 1994 ovloV 850 turbo wagon (long
story to do with 5 time recurring valve failures from 55k miles to 138k
miles--I want to loose the car before it happens again) we bought last
fall I have talked with a seller in my area who is offering a 1992
100CSQ Avant with 117k miles in my area in the Audifans Marketplace for
what sounds like a great deal. Seller's wife opted for a SUV is reason
for selling.
As many here will likely recall, an early 1990s quattro avant was on my
short list prior to buying the ovloV last year. Yes, I know it has a lot
less power, but for a family station wagon I suspect it is still
adequate and will still cruise down the road on long road trips just
fine. I'll still have my 5ktq with boost mods and 4kq to play with as my
daily drivers, aside from road trips this will be my wife's car. While I
will be giving up a lot of straight line acceleration in the Volvo 850
turbo, it kinda handles like a pig and I have to believe the 100CSQ
Avant (it has Bilstein HD shocks BTW) will be a lot nicer driving car
overall, probably just as safe, and I simply have more confidence in a
car with four rings on the front than this Swedish problem child.
So anything specific I should be looking out for? Timing belt (with
tensioners and water pump) was recently done. (But I do wonder how hard
a DIY job this is for next time around--any worse than an I5 turbo?) Oil
consumption is 1qt every 1500-2000 miles which sounds reasonable. Tranny
fluid has been flushed regularly. Brakes, tires, and shocks are all
fresh.
I've owned enough Audis (and been on this list long enough) over the
years to know pretty much what to look for, but I plead ignorance to the
V6 engine cars having never owned one. Since there are no good
independent Audi shops in Santa Cruz that I am aware of I will be the
primary servicer of this car (like I have been for all my I5 Audis for
years now).
I don't want to rehash the old thread, we're going to go look this
weekend and I just wanted to know what to watch out for from 100/A6 V6
owners. (Anyone want a '94 ovloV 850 turbo wagon with a new head???)
