Taka, Javad,
This is what I'll use in my coupe quattro, so maybe I'll be disturbing you
with stupid questions after July when I start this conversion....:-)
I thought the wiring harness could be used "as is" in the car, bolting all
ground points into one place (or another) and taking the +12v from the
fusebox and that's all. (at least I hope so...) I didn't study the 3B's
wiring harness thoroughly yet but I think nothing except the Motronic's 12v
feed goes to the fuse box, am I right or does anything else go through the
fuse box?
Other than that I expect the total cost to be pretty low as the motor comes
from a parts car (so I can take at least part of my investment back) and
almost all needed parts are there and in good condition....I'll be swapping
in a new clutch, a new head gasket set (AAN reinforced head gasket) various
other gaskets (manifolds, turbo, front and rear crank seals, etc), new
lifters, ... that I hope to get from China for mucho cheaper than I would
get them with my mechanic's discount at my favourite parts supplier (though
I'm still a student and nowhere near being a professional mechanic) :-)
I think I'll use the 3B's downpipe for the conversion but without any cat
because my car doesn't have to have cats....I'd like to use a single
exhaust pipe so I guess it could work if I'd cut the pipe that goes into
the left cat and use only the right one, am I right? I'm plannng to use a
stock 10v urq exhaust system (2.5" diameter) from there on...
Will I need to bend the RF tierod? I'd think not but what about the truth? :o)
What other specific points about this conversion should I know? I know the
tach signal will be pretty complicated to get to the tach from the ECU but
I'll study wiring harnesses and I'll find out...
I'll also need to grind part of the clutch housing to be able to bolt the
RPM/TDC sensors, I'll need a custom PS pump bracket (anyone has one they
would copy for me?) because I don't feel like swapping the whole hydraulic
system the good old ATF system works right and ATF is so cheap! The front
core will need some reworking in order to fit the intercooler behind the
grill, I'll try to source a second IC, weld 'em both together and do some
custom aluminium end tanks...
What else will be involved? I know brakes won't be sufficient and I'll swap
some Porsches in :-)
Thanks for any input,
Mihnea
