Not sure how to test them w/o a regulated pressure fuel source to connect
them to instead. Just don't use water, from what I've heard it's abrasive
in this application.
As for new injectors, many sources, I used Double Z from the vendor list,
about $200 including new seals (already on the injectors from Bosch) a
new Bosch fuel filter.

Hi Larry,
thanks for the response. I have a spare set of used fuel injectors for
my engine. Is there a way to check if tey are ok w/o
having them installed on my engine? Of course I would have to replace
dried out o-rings, but is it worth trying? How much
I am to expect to pay for new injectors anyway?
Thank you. Wes

Wes,
If you haven't replaced the fuel injectors (or don't know when it was
done), it may be time. These are maintenance parts, and it's not hard to
do. Order a new set of regular (not the cold start 6th one) injectors
with seals (try TPC, Double Z on the vendor list) and then check the
archives on the how to do (sjmautotechnic.com may also have these
instructions). An injector puller tool will help, though other things
will do just as well.

Hi everybody,
I am new guy on the block so bear with me if I am not very articulate.
My '89 200quattro has developed hot start problem. It needs to be
cranked longer than average car
whether hot or cold, but it will start. Now, when the engine is hot and
left for 10-15 minutes, it will start
after a little prolonged cranking, but it idles rough and when you take
off without a little more gas than usual,
it will die. When it dies there is no chance to restart it! You can
crank it to run the battery down or burn the
starter, the engine will not start. What I do to restart it is I remove
one or two spark plugs and I put a little
gasoline into each of them. That usually helps, but may take several
times to do. And when the engine
restarts it has very weak and rough idle. I have to rev it up a couple
of times to bring the idle to normal.
And then everything is fine. It has a smooth idle and normal power, no
tendency to die on me.
It only wants to die on me when I start it hot and it is so weak.
I've checked all vacuum lines, distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs and
wires are ok. So are ISV, idle sensor
and warm up sensor. Would it be the oxygen sensor or fuel injectors?
Any ideas?? Wes
