Thank you all for your replies and advice on this. The early bird got
the worm in this case--car sold Friday night before we could get a
chance to go see it. It sounded like a screaming deal at only $6k, and
likely was.

Anyway, there is a very clean (looks new the cosmetics are so nice) '93
100CSQ Avant being sold by a small-time dealer in my town. (One owner
Monterey Peninsula car traded at a dealer down there for something new.)
It has 107k and he's asking $9995.00.

I'm not too concerned about being sluggish around town, it can't be any
worse than the ~115hp ovloV 245 DL w/slushbox my wife drove for years.
Sounds like it would make a nice road trip car.

Questions:

Do the same oil leakage worries apply to the '93 as they did for the '92
or were they fixed by then?

Can an integrated CD changer be added, or am I better off putting in a
new head unit? (I have not gotten a close look yet, but this looks to
have the stock radio.)

Is there a way to easily see/sniff some of the tranny fluid to check for
discoloration/burnt smell? (I gather these have no dipstick/fill tube.)

Aside from the V6 and the slushbox I feel very confident in my ability
to evaluate and check this car out. I assume if there are any of the
problematic oil leaks that some evidence should be pretty obvious?

If I can convince him he could more easily sell a '94 ovloV 850 turbo
wagon in our area than this lovely piece of inventory he has sat on for
a few weeks now, I may be able to parlay the problem child into an Audi!
I'm guessing there is only a 2-3 grand difference in values which would
be a semi-painless amount to come up with for the added piece of mind I
would have in an Audi over this valve eating monster ovloV. (A fast
valve eating monster--but what good is power and speed if you're afraid
it will suck a valve the next time you go WOT? Give me my faithful 5ktq
thank you very much.)
