Short version:
I stumbled upon it when I returned the S4 that
needed ignition modules.
Long version:
Well, I've always had a sports car (first car was
an Austin-Healey 100/6, then a Sprite, Triumph TR-4,
MGB, Fiat X1/9), until I had my second child and
had to give it up (said SWMBO). When the Miata came
out ten or so years ago, I was smitten, but with
three kids there was no way (my wife said) I could
get another sports car.
Fast forward to 2002, five years post-divorce. In
looking for a "new" Audi, I came across a bargain
'93 S4 (see the archives for the V8 vs. S4 debate).
I put a deposit on it, sale pending they fixed the
test drive stumble. It turned out it needed ignition
modules, which was going to cost *someone* about
US$1,000. I wasn't going to pay it, the dealer didn't
want to suck it up, so the path of least resistance
was to return it and keep looking.
I came thisclose to buying a black-on-black V8 at the
Audi Connection, which answered the S4 vs. V8 question
for me, but when I returned to the S4 dealer to get
my check back, he had a nice '93 black-on-tan Miata he
just got in. One ride and my fate was sealed. And
there was no one telling me I couldn't buy it. I love
it. My kids love it. I'm sure my ex hates it. Triple
bonus.
Since I bought the Miata, my 200 TQ doesn't see much
use. I use it mainly for long trips and those times
when I need four seats.
The beauty of automobiles is that you can own more
than one at a time.

'93 Mazda Miata (a marriage no-no)
'93 Kawasaki ZX-6 (another marriage no-no)
'56 Austin-Healey 100 (bought in '74, survived the divorce)
'71 Honda CB350 (bought in '81, survived the divorce)
P.S. Anyone have any cheap storage in southern NH USofA?
The Healey and Honda need a place to sleep.
