Re; Strange occurrence

Yes, of course, I suspected the waterpump and or timing or serpentine belts.
But there was no sign before or subsequently of waterpump problems, and
observing the engine running while the choking was going on revealed neither
sound nor other sign that anything on the front of the engine was amiss.

All of that was Saturday morning, and so far this week, no sign of any
problem has reemerged. Bear in mind that although the temperature did rise,
it did not come close to overheating.

Finally, I have received two posts from others....one 100CS and one
A6....who had the same problem, and then nothing for many thousands of miles
and years of operation. My car is due for a timing belt by mileage fairly
soon....9,800 miles or so. But I understood that the timing belt was
changed for age prior to my buying the car, and since the car was maintained
by the original selling Audi dealer for its first 40,000 miles and 7 years
of life, I will not be surprised to find that the waterpump and all assorted
stuff were changed at the six year point as well.

In the meantime, I am watching everything like a hawk!
