I had a lot of trouble with the little metal trim pieces on my '89 200
Quattro after replacing the headlamps, too. The final solution was to drill
a small hole in the end of the trim piece and screw it to the fender beneath
it with a stainless sheet metal screw.
The pieces stayed in place after that, and it wasn't really noticeable.
Yeah, yeah, I know...sounds crude, but my 89 was 8 years old when I did it,
and although it was VERY nice and had relatively low mileage, it was in no
way intended to be a collectors item, and I never gave any thought to
entering it into a concours....
