The lower numbers stand to reason. I was being conservative with the
numbers I encountered. Deep-down I figured that the '87 number was lower
because of the model change-over and, at least in the US, because Audi was
suffering the results of the "sudden acceleration" problem that was pinned
to the 5000. The dealers couln't move their inventory. I picked my Coupe
off the dealer lot in May of 1988!
