Interesting thoughts (I say as a recovering type 44 addict myself).
However:

I doubt this is true. The warranties are considered an outstanding
debt of Daewoo (actually, an obligation, of which a debt is one form).
When you buy a company, you can't just drop the obligations on the
floor and forget about them.
I should know, I'm sitting at my desk, looking at my second buyout
in the last few years :-)
