type 44 syndrome, but no Audi content

Ken-
I'm posting this to the list as well.

I had one of the early 5ktqs- G54 calipers, defrost in the climate
control unit,
don't know about the rear suspension.

The 5ktq that I had didn't have as much power assist to the steering,
that was the
biggest difference and one that makes a lot of difference in driving
feel.

In comparison, my 200q has lots more power assist, to the point where I
can turn
the car one-handed w/o any problems- couldn't do this in the 5ktq and I
know the
power assist was working properly in the 5ktq- new hydraulic damn near
everything
while I owned the car.

Looking only at the 10v cars, I think that a 5ktq with MC-2 engine,
chipped, would
be the best combination- lighter weight, fastest spooling. Of course,
the refinement
of the 200 is lacking in the 5ktq- mine and other 5ktqs I've seen simply
feel much
more crude compared to the 200. (post-facelift for those of you not in
the US)

Hey Taka,

Are you writing that the road feel and driving dynamics between the
5kq's and 200q's
are different? Is this for reasons besides the dash, door handles, and
different motor
(MC-1 vs. MC-2)?

It was my understanding that the chassis wasn't changed. Except maybe
for those
early '86 5kctq's that had some difference in the rear tie rod area.

Maybe the change in driving dynamics is the higher compression in the
later models?

Just curious what you meant. Anytime I can convince myself that my car
is good in
some way, it helps! :-) (by helps, I mean helps me to not finance a
modern one)

It's interesting that Volvo is now offering all wheel drive and 5
cylinder turbo motors.
What do they see that Audi didn't, or vice versa? I like the 5's.
