When we did Brendan's he got a kit from Summit Racing, included
everything necessary, nice long bit of heavy red wire. Run the ground
to a rear bumper bolt, they are easy to get to. He also used a battery
box from Walmart, since the Summit one was a lot bigger than necessary.
Ran the battery wire under the carpet just inside the pass side of the
car, and through the ex-AC line hole in the firewall, to a car stereo
power distribution block (not in the kit).

While a nice "loud" output probably will help drown the alt (etc.)
noise, I've found the best thing is to ground *every* component of the
stereo to the same place. "directional" interconnects help, too (they
have 2 signal wires and a grounded sheild that is only attached at one
end, the preamp end).
