SAAB 9000s use 4x108 as well, FWIW. I used a set of SAAB steelies on my 80q,
and my brother has a set on his 90s. They are not hub centric though.

At least in the U.S., the Quantum was introduced with 4 x 100 rims -- the
exact same rims later used on the original US GTI of '83 and '84. I owned
one of each, autocrossed the '84 heavily, and shared wheels/tires with
friends who had an Acura and a Miata, both 4 x 100 cars.

U.S. listers may be interested in a potential cheap upgrade that a friend of
mine is using. Background: my "other" cars are Alfa Romeos, which use 4 x
108 (at least on the versions I have; later Alfas use different patterns).
My friend Joe with a '72 Spider (same pattern as my '74 Spider and '73
Berlina) is currently running Ford Mustang 15 x 7 wheels, in part because of
the difficulty of finding good track tires to fit the 14" rims that come
stock on our Alfas.

Ford specifies their wheels as 4 x 4.25, which -- if you multiply it times
25.4 -- works out to 107.9mm. Because many Mustang drivers have upgraded to
larger rims, U.S. listers may be able to find these original 15 x 7 alloys
inexpensively from someone who just switched.

Where you may find difficulty in mounting is in the center hub. On Alfas,
the front and rear wheel hubs are of different sizes; the rear is
significantly larger than the front. Alfa rims are designed for this not to
matter, but with the Ford rims, Joe found he either had to have the "hub
centric" center hole machined out, or use 1/4" spacers (commonly available
at hot rod/speed shops). Just thinking about mounting wheel spacers on a
wheel held on with bolts instead of nuts makes my head hurt.

Furthermore, I understand the new Ford Focus is specified as using 4 x 108
rims, so we might be able to mine that as a resource for extra wheels.

Disclaimer: my '83 Audi CGT uses 4 x 100 rims...

(P.S. -- the new Die-Hard in the Berlina has meant I haven't had to have it
jump-started by kind quattro listers who happened to pull up at the same gas
station... :-)
