Dan-
Take a close look at the Michelin Man and see if he is cracked. If that
thing leaks at all, the car will not run right. While you are in there take
a look at the other hoses and connections between the airbox and the
throttle valve.
Lifter noise is interesting... Maybe related to the car sitting for a while?
Others may want to comment on this, but I have found that the heavier oil
(15-40) seems to result in less lifter noise on cold startups. I just
switched over to 10-30 synthetic, and I think I hear a difference.
