How plentiful are Golf/Jetta synchros?

I'm sure somebody will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think any VW "A" CHASSIS SYNCHROs were legally imported into the USA. There may be a few gray market cars running around, but I've never seen one. Oh, you can now get a Passat 4Motion, but I'm sure you knew that...

How easy is it to find an AWD Golf or Jetta in California? I'd like to find
