LIkewise here. I started with an Austin America (great when it drove but
spent most of its time on concrete blocks), then a Ford FAirlane (sofa on
wheels) than a 67 Bug. The 67 bug lasted until I drove it to Minneapolis
for 1976 christmas, and died soon after I returned. I bought my first
watercooled VW in JAnuary 1977, a 77 Rabbit. Then I had 3 1980 Dashers. one
hatchback, and 2 variants, one diesel and one gas. They were great cars.
Then it was a 1983 4000 S and after that a series of 5000 quattros. Great
cars, I must say.

Ths Dasher....
Thanks to the dasher we are an Audi family. In '81 we drove to the east
coast in green '7? D Wagon from Denver for Christmas to see family. My
grandfather had reserved the last available (I understand) new D wagon for
my dad. It was an '81 or '82 ??. Whatever...we drove it back to Denver and
it broke down in Colby, Kansas--it's maiden voyage, on New Years Eve. We
were lucky to find a flatbed to tow us all the way to Denver that night.
The car served us fine til '84 when it was involved in multi-car pile-up on
I-25 in the rain. a tractor trailer literally ran over the wagon part .
The only part of the car the remained was the driver seat. My dad walked
away and was luckily driving alone. He was the only driver of the 6
involved that was not ticketed. Anyway....this led to him buying a new 1984
4000s quattro. The rest is history.
