I hate to be pedantic, but....
What you want to replace is the infamous fading Trip Computer Display,
which is _not_ an LCD display, but an LED display.
Unfortunately, AFAIK, the only way to replace it is by replacing the entire
instrument panel :-(
I suspect that someday someone will figure out what the real problem is
(maybe Audi already knows?) and make repairs possible &/or more economical.
There is no reason the LED display itself should fail. LEDs are normally
very long-lived. I suspect that the fading is caused by bad connections,
probably a ribbon cable of some sort.
Try an auto recycler for a replacement instrument cluster.
