What kind of fuel mileage do you get?

On good ol' California RFG II fool I tend to get mid-teens around town
and low twenties highway. Does not seem to matter if I am driving the
4kq, 5ktq (1.8 bar mods), or ovloV 850 turbo wagon--they all get within
a couple MPG of each other it seems. Of the bunch the 4kq gets the best
city mileage and the 5ktq the best highway. Much like the reliability
and handling department, the ovloV 850t comes in DFL of the trio.
The days of cruising an '87 5ktq Avant at 80 for hours on end and
getting near 30mpg are a distant (pre-RFG II) memory. 4kqs I had back
then also got really good mileage. I'm happy when I see 15 city and 24
highway out of the ovloV, but my quattros don't do much better either.
All three are I5 engines of similar displacement (2.2 - 2.3L). The ovloV
is a slushbox always driven in "sport" mode FWIW (so called "econ" mode
gets worse mileage--go figure). Also, FWIW, the ovloV has a new o2
sensor, new head (don't ask), and they all have passed CA smog within
the last year and are running well.
