pre 86½ AC vs. post 86½ questions

 Hi.

My '86 200tqa lost it's AC last summer on our trip to Nordkapp. The
compressor was already broken (seized) when I bought the car and then the
control box went dead. Temperature display went dark and the blower
did not blow anymore. So at the moment I have no air circulation at all.

I have an option to buy the whole AC system from a '87 car but my problem
is that I don't know if the newer digital system will be a simple
replacement for the pre 86½ analog system. Has anyone done this conversion?
What parts need to be replaced? At least the control box and AC programmer
but what about wiring looms? Does the newer AC command the ECU differently?
Different kind of sensors in the systems? BTDTs anyone?

One option would be swapping the compressor and then trying to fix
the old control box but I don't know it the darn thing is repairable.

 Thanks in advance.
