Just saw the thread - what a hoot!
Mine was 285 ks on the autobahn in 1974 in a Ferrari Daytona with a Porsche
93? not far behind. Had the passenger lean over and check the parallax
because at that speed...my eyes were everywhere but not in the cockpit.
Like some have noted, the car was hunkered down and steady as a rock. Held
it for about 10 mins which is a long, long time, about 30 miles when you
think about it. When we stopped for gas, very soon after (as we I started I
had 3/4 of a tank and when I finished it was about 1/3), rear tires had
started to chunk. Pressures were set earlier in the day in the UK at 42
rear and 40 front, so I think we exceeded their effective design.
Man oh man, never again. Fastest in the US is about 110 soon after I got my
A6 (done much more on the track of course) and that was with a k40 and a
prayer on I 64. Also watched the fuel gauge unwind, but nice and steady,
and only for 3 or 4 mins. just not fun when being caught can result in
costs equivalent to buying a perfectly nice Urq on EBay, and trashing it!
Speed kills, its dumb and irresponsible and stupid, but man oh man its sure
cures these economy blues. What a rush!
