Wheel Bearing, Ball Joint, and Carrier Arm Bushing Replacement

I used a rented tool from www.germanautoparts.com (although I don't see the
tool listed on their site right now).

The tool is basically a metal cup, plate and big giant bolt. You remove
both snap rings securing the wheel bearing, thread the big bolt through the
cup, through the center of the bearing, and through a correctly sized plate
on the rear. When you tighten the bolt and nut combo you pull the bearing
out of the housing and into the cup.

Installation is the reverse, just make sure you put one of the snap rings
into place to pull the bearing tight up against.

I did this on two cars (both sides) over a weekend with incredibly easy
results!!!

Here's a good picture of the tool:

Subject: Wheel Bearing, Ball Joint, and Carrier Arm Bushing Replacement

Hello All,

I'm about to embark on a much need replacement of all the above listed
front end parts. Huw's photo-tutorial of the bushing removal tool will
be of great aid I'm sure. But does anyone know of a similar resource
for instructions on the ball joints and the wheel bearing? I've done a
couple VW wheel bearings and both were grand tasks, requiring a trip to
a hydraulic press with the whole assembly. Has anyone discovered an
easy way to get the bearing out without a press?

I've never done ball-joints so any tips would be much appreciated.

Thanks..
