I looked at the ISV's in my two Type 44's.
1986 5000cstq - ISV is VDO
Audi P/N 035 133 455F
VDO Number: 408 202/008/008
The Family Album also shows Audi 035 133 455F
The plug is Audi P/N 171 906 230
1989 200q Avant (MC-1) - ISV is VDO
Audi P/N 035 133 455F
VDO Number: 408 202/008/001
The Family Album also shows Audi 035 133 455F
The plug is Audi P/N 171 906 230
Both of these were replaced in the last 4 months and the ISV's I replaced
were the same VDO part. There were no questions when I ordered it and the
plug was right.

I have no idea what this is about a small plug vs. a big plug or Bosch vs.
VDO. Everything indicates that your 1987 should use the VDO like my two
cars. You did say that you have a 1987 5kcstq, didn't you. If it was a
non-turbo it might be something different, but I have no idea what that
would use except that it is a different P/N. It looks like all MC engines
(i.e. 10v turbos) in 5000/200 models from 1986 through 1991 used the same
035 133 455F ISV which is a VDO in my cars.
