Fuel tank cleaning

While waiting for my fuel pump removal tool to arrive, I decided to drain
the remaining ~5 gallons or so from the tank this afternoon. There appears
to be a thin layer of silt, crud, etc on the bottom of the tank. Since
access to the tank is quite limited, I was wondering what others have to
clean out their tanks? Or would I be better off just leaving things alone? I
am not sure what caused the failure of my pump, but it was never what I
would consider noisy (at least compared to my CGT, which is quite loud but
still going strong at 214k). Any BTDTs appreciated.
