are 1986/87 5ktq brakes really different from other years?

Thanks for the reply .

I have tried all of the local junk yards looking at Vw as well as the
very limited Audi selection.  Also tried a number of the Audifans
vendors without any success.

Today,  i'll probably go to  a machine shop to see what they can do ,
and at what price.
