Nathan, I don't think the FPR controls any ignition functions, but I'm not 100%. The symptoms you describe sound like a FPR to me, try jumpering it, that's the only way you'll know for sure. Ignition cut out problems are pretty rare in Audi's, sometimes the distributors hall sender has problems, another place you may consider looking for loose wires, etc.
