HID lights

Along this same line, HID elements are readily available (under US$500) for
use in projector lights using 900X bulbs. Is there also a retrofit
self-leveling mechanism for these same lights? Uh, let's make that
_cost_effective_ self leveling mechanism for these same lights. Or how
about just replacing the stock lights with the current production HID
lights? Available? How many $$$? BIG bucks, I'd wager.

Just how much improvement would there be with such a swap? The stock
projector lighting in my '95 S6 using ordinary tungsten-halogen bulbs is a
vast improvement over the stock dim bulbs of earlier "dark
projectors". These lights are pretty decent. Adding a pair of 100 watt
driving lights didn't make all that much difference. Would converting to
HIDs make another vast improvement, enough to justify the expense, or would
it just be another half vast [:-)] gain?

Any experience based answers?
