I missed the original message, but front strut insert replacement on a Type
44 requires no spring compressor. The strut inserts can come out through
the top once you remove the top plate. You can use a pipe wrench on the cap
without removing the strut assembly. Just raise the car on jack stands to
separate the spring coils and you can slip a pipe wrench of the right size
in between the coils to turn the cap.
Rear strut insert replacement requires removal of the spring/strut insert
assembly and then a spring compressor to take that apart.
