20v coolant gauge nonfunctional & ignition wire tool?

Hello again fellow sufferers-
Well in my never ending quest to make the 20v nicer, I decided that my
coolant gauge is no longer an accessory.
Mine currently does not work, although auto check always fires up OK, the
dashboard coolant gauge always reads stone cold. Since l'll be flushing the
brown sludge that is my coolant in the next week, I'd love some input about
what to replace in order to make the gauge work again when I've got all of
those big scary hoses disconnected. Thermostat? Multi function sensor? Those
weird copper plugs with electrical connections? Thanks.
Also, I'm going to be changing the plugs on this 90q20v soon and 20v.org says
"The connectors come off using a special tool that should be clipped onto the
forward most connector" (in reference to the plug wires). Huh? What special
tool is this?
Thanks to anyone who can help me with either problem...
Megan
