Um, yeah. What is really meant is a "water temperature sender", an example of
which can be found here:

A used one of these came with the car (PO said from junkyard) should I try
the used one or just get a new one? I also have a new "auxiliary fan switch"
but since my fan comes on, I don't think this is related to any of this
coolant gauge tomfoolery.
